Elinor Bellingham-Smith trained initially as a ballet dancer but after injury turned to painting and on the advice of her uncle, the artist Hugh Bellingham-Smith, studied at the Slade School of Art from 1928-1931. She married the painter Rodrigo Moynihan and embraced a bohemian way of life moving between Suffolk and London.  She was an adept landscape and still life artist, showing regularly through The London Group, at the Leicester Galleries and at the Royal Academy.  Today her wistful, softly-toned landscapes grace public collections in the Tate Gallery, The Arts Council and the Government Art Collection among many others.
