A charming Fauve-inspired flower piece by the Canadian painter Llewellyn Petley-Jones, dating to 1957 when the artist was living largely in Paris.  Petley-Jones was largely self taught but by 1931 was one of the youngest artists to show at the National Gallery, Canada. He travelled to Europe and by 1934 had studio in Montparnasse with work accepted for the Salon d’Automne.  Petley-Jones served in the British Navy during the war and returned to Paris in the 1950’s  to complete a commission for some 200 views of the city on behalf of a gallery in Montreal.

Today a Petley-Jones Gallery still exists run by his family in Vancouver to exhibit his work.
