Jacqueline Rizvi was born in Yorshire in 1944, initally she studied art and Art History at the Regent Street Ploytechnic and transferred to the Chelsea School of Art , graduating in 1968. She worked as an illustrator and has lectured in Art History but has always kept up a strong profile exhibiting through the major London art societies including the Royal Watercolour Society. She has won a number of art prizes over her career including the Ondaatje Prize for Drawing in 1996.
Her pared back approach to creating a composition allows her to create a single focus around - very often - a cup or bowl in an indeterminate interior setting - perhaps just a table top or cloth for background. The quiet focus draws the eye to a contemplative state.
