‘Audierne - at Dusk,  Brittany’

ADRIAN RYAN  1920-1998

Oil on canvas, 12 x 16 inches, signed.

Ex: artist’s family.

Adrian Ryan, once described as the painter’s painter; led something of a charmed life. Educated at Eton and trained at the Slade, he lived between Suffolk, Cornwall and the South of France.  All of these elements are reflected in his painting - an admirer of Bonnard and Soutine, his brushwork is definitively French school.  His landscapes captured the coves of Cornwall and the villages of Brittany as well as still life compositions.  This charming view of evening light playing on the walls of Breton cottages is Ryan painting at his best..

His work was purchased for the Tate Gallery among many others.
