Padraig Machmaidhachain RWA

Born in Northern Ireland, Padraig studied at the Belfast College of Art and then in Dublin, winning a British Council Scholarship to study in Warsaw, Poland from 1960-61.  He was an artist who travelled really widely thereafter spending time in Russia and the Baltic states - influenced by the work of Piotr Potworowski, who himself was engaged with the St Ives Group in Cornwall.   We see Padraig producing lyrical, spare, graphic paintings that respond to the landscapes of Ireland and Cornwall - deeply textural paintings that reflect the ancient lands of the Isle of Purbeck and the Dorset coast, as we see here.
